A italian Prime Minister today announced the signing of a bilateral plan with Kuwait allowing Kuwait to extend the ceiling on petrol and diesel prices to Italian oil supply stations Q8.
“On Friday, I met in Kuwait with the Emir, Sheikh Mishal al Ahmad al Sabah, in the presence of the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister, to deepen bilateral cooperation, with special attention to investments, energy, infrastructure and defense,” Georgia Meloni wrote today in her social network account X.
Meloni went to Kuwait on Friday to meet with the Emir in the context of rising fuel prices and the Italian Government's efforts to contain them.
The governor confirmed that during the talks, “ Kuwait’s willingness to extend the maximum price limit for petrol and diesel, already applied by Q8, with the aim of containing energy costs and protecting families and businesses, was evident.”.
The meeting took place after, at the end of September, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the Kuwaiti group owning the Q8 supply stations, was associated with the initiative to limit fuel prices in Italy at Meloni's request.
KPC manages, through the Q8 brand, more than 2,900 gas stations on roads and motorways across the country.
The initiative sets a maximum price of EUR 1,99 per litre of petrol and EUR 2,19 per litre of diesel fuel.
The State Energy Company Eni also took part in the initiative and announced this Friday the extension of the measure until the end of the year.
Inflation and the sharp rise in fuel prices in recent months, also due to the crisis in the Strait of Ormuz, are a major concern for the Meloni Government, as they occur in the last year of the legislature before the elections of 2027.
During the meeting in Kuwait, both sides also addressed regional issues, in particular the “safety of sea routes and the strengthening of relations between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council”.
An Action Plan setting out strategic priorities and defining the development lines of bilateral cooperation for the period 2027-2030 was also signed.
