O new MG07 was recently presented in China, but the online event did not go well – ending prematurely following some plagiarism charges to other manufacturers.
It all happened on June 29, according to Sina: while Director General Chen Cui explained the electrical fastback, they quickly began to emerge comments to accuse the template of being a copy of rivals like Porsche Taycan or Xiaomi YU7.
The person responsible well tried to defend himself (even using a meme), but without success. So much so that he got emotional and the online broadcast had to end prematurely. Which didn't stop the subject from going viral on Chinese social networks.
A colder response came on July 2nd, at a special meeting of MG that was attended not only by the press, but also by the public. Then Chen Cui reiterated: “The MG07 is a copy, but copies the historical models of the MG brand“ – recalling models from the past of the British manufacturer, including the 1965 MGB which is also a fastback.
Seeing Porsche Taycan and MG07 side-by-side, it is indefensible that there are many similarities in the profiles – from the windows to the side air entrances, through the waistline itself or the roof line. But there are also notorious differences – for example the longer front or MG’s own headlights with a distinctive design. It should be noted that Xiaomi YU7 had already been compared with Taycan since it was launched.
