A Microsoft Frontier Company (MFC) is “focused on Border Transformation through AI for our customers”, which “goes beyond” what is known as ‘Forward Deployed Engineering’ (FDE) — which consists of integrating engineers into the client company to implement the product — and intends to be a leader in this field of the sector, states Microsoft in a statement quoted by EFE.
The creation of this business unit comes after competitors in the AI sector have recently launched initiatives focused on FDE, a professional category coined for years by Palantir software development company.
Amazon Web Services announced this week an investment of 1,000 million for an FDE team, and OpenAI and Anthropic launched similar teams in May, each with external funding from large capital funds. Microsoft highlights in its statement that it maintains “FDE partnerships” with major global consultants such as EY and PwC.
Microsoft indicated that its customers already use the AI and now “concentrate on achieving measurable business results and verifying the return of their investments in AI, while ensuring that their intelligence is amplified and that their IP (intellectual property) is protected.”.
MFC offers “deep knowledge of the sector, change management and continuous improvement experience, as well as business-grade AI engineering skills”, with 6,000 experts who will integrate into customers’ companies to help them design, innovation, implement and improve AI systems “on a scale, based on measurable business results”.
The technology company pointed out that MFC will protect intellectual property with a “diversified AI platform in open and heterogeneous models” and argued that its customers should not be “closed” to a single model, so they have “flexibility” to use OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft or other suppliers’ models “without giving control to any of them”.
The president of MFC will be the Brazilian Rodrigo Kede Lima, who in the last six years has led “business transformation as responsible for sales in the Americas and Asia” in Microsoft and has 30 years of experience in the sector.
