O prime Minister denied having spoken of “selfishness” of protesters for the housing that have been in Porto for days. Luís Montenegro transcribed what he said and, to journalists in Belgium, told whom he addressed when he spoke of “selfish” reasons: political parties, associative movements and “organisations in the development of his action”.
“I was careful to go transcribe what I said. And I said this: ‘First of all, I already have the opportunity to say, last week, in the AR, that I hope that political parties, associative movements, Portuguese organisations, will not fall into the temptation of simply for selfish reasons of their own action, import to Portugal climates of instability, contestation, which do not actually have support in Portuguese society’, said Belgium in Brussels, when asked about the protests that have taken place in Portugal.
“ I addressed political parties, associative movements and organizations in the development of their action”, pointed.
“ We all have respect for the expression of indignation, concern, on all matters. And, of course, about housing. It is not a new issue in the political debate or new challenge in our country”, he said.
“ We are, moreover, very comfortable because in two years we have promoted a very significant set of changes in what is the ability to offer public and private housing and also in support directed to the search for those who are most in need of it”.
