O mozambican party Anamola holds today, in Maputo, its first extraordinary National Convention, providing for the participation of more than 400 delegates, to assess amendments to the statutes, to approve pending legislative instruments and to define the next political steps.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 09:00 (08:00 in Lisbon), in a hybrid format, based in the city of Maputo and participation of structures of the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (Anamola), Venâncio Mondlane, at national, provincial, district and diaspora level.
The convention was announced in September, after the second National Council, which consensualized the proposal for October 24, with the aim of assessing and approving instruments that remained pending.
At the time, the national spokesman, Alberto Manhique, explained that the National Council had approved the regulation of the body, the members of the Justice Council and the Taxation Council, in addition to having ratified the appointment of the Secretary-General, while the financial report was still under discussion.
The second National Council was held in Maputo to evaluate the party's first year of activity, analyze the implementation of previous decisions and strengthen the internal organization.
In the statements on the extraordinary convention, the party stressed the institutional strengthening and participation of members in defining the next steps of the organization, calling for unity, discipline and respect for statutory rules.
Anamola did not detail the specific agenda of today's meeting, nor did he identify all the proposals that will be submitted to the delegates for consideration or vote.
However, on Tuesday, the party withdrew any possibility of replacing Venâncio Mondlane in the leadership of the political organization, after speculations raised by the trial of the party's founder in November.
The position was taken by Anamola's Secretary-General James Njiji, who ensured that the possible replacement of Venâncio Mondlane was never discussed in the internal organs of the organization: “I don’t know why we have to replace the president for going to trial. At no point is it a matter of discussion in our organs. He remains party president and will continue until after the trial.”.
Venâncio Mondlane was elected president of Anamola in August this year, in the province of Nampula, for a five-year term, party that he himself, presidential candidate in 2024, founded in 2025.
The Supreme Court scheduled for November 17 the beginning of the trial of Venâncio Mondlane, in the context of the protests following the general elections of October 9, 2024, in which the politician was candidate for the Presidency of the Republic and did not recognize the official results.
The process was moved by the prosecutor, who accuses the politician of crimes of public apology to crime, incitement to collective disobedience, public instigation to the practice of crime, instigation to terrorism and incitement to terrorism.
