O chief of the Mozambican State, Daniel Chapo, conducts a work visit to Russia from 27 to 29 October, with an agenda to meet Vladimir Putin and participate in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit.

In a statement, the Mozambican Presidency indicates that Daniel Chapo visits that European country in response to the invitation of his counterpart Vladimir Putin to participate in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit.

This will be the first participation of President Daniel Chapo in the Russia-Africa Summit, a platform for dialogue aimed at promoting and deepening cooperation mechanisms and strategies between the Russian Federation and African countries, as reported by the Presidency.

According to the document, during the summit, the Heads of State should adopt three documents, namely the declaration of the Third Russia-Africa Summit, the Action Plan 2027-2029 and the Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of the Pacific Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies.

“On the margins of the meeting, the President of the Republic will hold a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, as well as interacting with the Mozambican community residing in the Russian Federation and representatives of large Russian companies,” the statement reads.

The head of the Mozambican State visits Russia after, in July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov advanced in Maputo that Russia is available to help Mozambique “eliminate” terrorism in Cabo Delgado.

“ We continue to support the efforts of President Chapo to stabilise the situation in the north, eliminate the terrorist threat and consolidate Mozambique's true sovereignty. We support, in particular through the training of personnel and the provision of the necessary weapons and equipment,” Lavrov said in statements to journalists after meeting with Mozambique’s Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister, Maria dos Santos Lucas.

At the meeting with the head of Mozambican diplomacy, after meeting with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, the Russian ruler reaffirmed the readiness of Russia's support to combat the insurgency that affects Cabo Delgado, a gas-rich province, since 2017, by elements associated with the Islamic State and attacks that caused more than 1.1 million displaced persons.

“ At both the meeting with the President a few hours ago and during the long negotiations that have just ended, we devoted most of our attention to discussing concrete ways of strengthening, developing and extending our strategic partnership, on a solid basis of solidarity and mutual assistance, forged during the period of the fight against colonialism,” Lavrov pointed out at the time.
