A piece will have three recites, on the days 18, 19 and 20 of September, including a moment, on the second day, when Sara Barros Leitão will “share the process of building this show”, advanced the Theatre Circo, in a statement.
According to the same text, on the 26th there will be a reflection with the doctor Ana Campos and with the former MP of the PCP and former director of the Museum of the Aljube Rita Rato, on the occasion of the almost 20 years of the last referendum on the IVG.
Sara Barros Leitão was in residence at the Viriato Theatre in Viseu, with “We Alone”, where he held a series of conversations with schools and general public.
According to the synopsis published by Viriato, in May, “We Alone” “part of a verse of the writer and activist Maria Teresa Horta for a reflection on the almost 20 years since the dehumanization of abortion in Portugal, recovering the memory of this process, which involved two referendums to the Portuguese population, until arriving at the present and realizing what remains to be done”.
In the ‘site’ of the artistic structure Cassandra, we read about the show: “There is always someone who knows someone. There's always one of us who knows someone who's already done it. Another, you know who can do it. There's always someone who tells us the way, or someone who leads us there. We may not want to see it, but that's not why it ceases to exist. After all, there is always someone who knows someone.”.
“ In 2027, 20 years have been marked since the Depenalization of the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy in Portugal, conquered through a large mobilization of civil society, endorsed twice. Which way has it been since then? Is the right to abortion threatened at the moment? If, on the one hand, this seems to be a matter more than resolved in our society, on the other, there is a reactionary fog that insists on hovering and making us back”, one can read.
The text concludes with the warning that “when repression wants to fall on humanity, it is the body of the woman that begins the battle”.
“We Alone” have the text, staging and interpretation of Sara Barros Leitão, with the assistance of staging Inês Sincero and the scenography of Catarina Barros.
The show is a Cassandra production, with coproduction of the 23 Miles, Cineteatro Louletano, Cineteatro de Pombal, Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias, Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery, Teatro Viriato and Theatro Circo.
