Covid: Risks
“Almost everyone is still at risk of developing a severe Covid infection. However, those at higher risk include very small children, the elderly and immunocompromised people who do not or do not develop adequate immune responses to protect themselves against the virus,” explains doctor Michael Mina.

The most common symptoms
During this month of July, and also during the rest of the summer, experts reveal that some of Covid’s most common symptoms are already well known. It is the case that dry cough, persistent, sore throat, nasal congestion, fatigue fever and body pain.
“ The loss of taste and smell is less common than it was before”, explains Alfredo J. Mena Lora. It also alerts to other symptoms to be taken into account. “ Vascular phenomena, such as Covid’s fingers, are also less frequent. Due to the higher levels of immunity in the population, we also see fewer patients developing severe respiratory symptoms at the onset of the disease compared to the onset of the pandemic”, continues.
On the other hand, fatigue and intestinal problems are also some of the symptoms that many people have in Covid infection. At the moment, recovery periods are also higher.
The most common variants
The Omicron variant, XFG, NB.1.8.1 and JN.1 are some of the most common at this time according to experts. “Although these remain highly contagious, we have more immunity due to vaccination and previous infections, which helps reduce the severity of the disease for many people.”
You might think that the risk would be lower at the time of summer, when colds and flu are less frequent, but the truth is that some care is still needed. “The increase in mobility during the summer months, due to travel and large social agglomerations, also increases opportunities for air transmission.”
