O Sporting is the seventh football club to change coach in 2026/27, after announcing today the start of negotiations for the contract termination with Rui Borges, national champion in 2024/25.

In the command of ‘leonino’ since December 2024, when he had arrived from Vitória de Guimarães to replace João Pereira, the technician, 45 years old, stars the eighth exchange this season in the banks in the main step.

At the end of 10 days, Sporting is in third place, with 21 points, nine of the isolated leader and national champion FC Porto and one of Benfica, second ranked (less one game), between the access to the ‘final four’ of the League Cup and a start with two wins and a defeat in the league phase of the Champions League – the ‘lions’ have not yet played for the Cup of Portugal.

Before Sporting, National, twice, Rio Ave, Arouca, Estoril Praia, Famalicão and Sporting Braga changed coaches in 2026/27.

The National fired João Gião on the fourth day and Alexandre Santos after the eighth, now being with João Henriques, already after Bruno Abreu, from the sub-19 team, has taken the interim leadership in two matches.

The Ave River changed to the seventh round the Greek Sotiris Silaidopoulos by Vasco Seabra, who was replaced in the Arouca by Vítor Severino, former deputy to Luís Castro and debuting as main coach.

Between the third round of the Cup of Portugal and the ninth round of the championship, Estoril Praia and Famalicão replicated the decision taken by the National in relation to Alexandre Santos and fired Vasco Matos and Carlos Carvalhal, respectively, and these successions continue to be provisionally assumed by Sérgio Raimundo, promoted by the sub-23 cascalenses, and the Portuguese-cabo-verdiano Ricardo Silva, auxiliary myinhoto.

Sporting de Braga bet on Franclim Carvalho, former deputy of Artur Jorge, to surrender the Spanish Carlos Vicens, also fired after the eighth round, which followed the debut in the league phase of the Liga Conference and a challenge in delay in the I Liga, a total of three consecutive losses.
