Um man was arrested by the Lisbon Municipal Police after being caught driving with a blood alcohol rate of 1.60 g/l, in Praça do Comércio, on Thursday.
According to the authority, this Friday, the man was arrested “in a routine inspection action” and “exercised the practice of driving a taxi with a higher blood alcohol rate than legally permissible”.
“ In the specific case, the driver was driving with a blood alcohol rate of 1.60g/l, which constitutes a crime, which is why he was delivered under arrest to the PSP, for further presentation to the competent judicial authority ", said the Lisbon Municipal Police.
In the note, the police explained that “it is prohibited to drive cars with a blood alcohol rate equal to or greater than 0,5g/l”.
However, “this fee is reduced to 0,2g/l in the case of probationary drivers, rescue or urgent service drivers, public transport of children and young people up to the age of 16, taxi, heavy passenger or freight cars and dangerous goods transport”.
“Driving with a blood alcohol rate of between 0.5 and 0.2 to 1.19g/l constitutes contra-ordination. Driving with an alcohol rate equal to or greater than 1.20g/l constitutes a crime,” he added.
However, taking into account that a professional driver whose limit is 0,2 g/l is concerned, the taxi driver was driving with a blood alcohol rate eight times the legal limit.
