Ontem (25 August) and Monday (day 24), Formula 3 had two days of official tests that served to premiere Madridng – the urban circuit of Madrid who, in about two and a half weeks, will host for the first time the Formula 1 Spanish GP.
In this initial contact of young talents with the Madrilena track, something drew attention: the amount of incidents throughout the sessions, with almost two dozen red flag situations in two days.
In the live follow-up articles on the official website of F3 it is found that on the first day, the sessions were nine times interrupted due to various incidents – not of great gravity, but that turned out to be a constant in this initial contact of pilots with a new layout and with a totally new asphalt.
The scenario repeated on the second day, with a total of ten red flags. Curves 5 and 6 will have proved particularly prone to incidents. It is good to note that, in tests, interruptions with red flags are more common, even being applied to situations that in running could be subject to milder measures like a safety car.
Ugo Ugochukwu dictated rhythm
The fastest in the overall statement of the two days of testing was Ugo Ugochukwu. The Campos Racing man completed the best lap in yesterday's morning session, running in 1.49.034 seconds to overcome Hiyu Yamakoshi (Van Amersfoort Racing) for 193 thousandths of a second. Enzo Deligny, also from Van Amersfoort Racing, completed the top three.
Time improvements did not repeat in the afternoon session, in which Freddie Slater (Trident) was the fastest in the only part of the test in which it ran at the 1m49 seconds – 1m49,685 seconds. On Monday, the times were all above 1 m50 seconds.
Track pleases the championship leader
Freddie Slater is the leader of Formula 3 at this time and liked what he saw in Madrid. Quoted by Formula One website, the American spoke of a track “to a certain point of the old guard”with interesting curves and “a lot of personality“. It also ensured that “it's probably one of the most fun in a calendar attack“.
Freddie Slatter continued in praise of the Maderlene line: “I think it’s amazing. I think it's one of the best clues i've flown. Just like the best clues, like Macau, Monaco, the clues that have personality, and I think that’s the most special thing they’ve done here.”.
