Fhi hospitalized this Tuesday, August 4th, the creator of American content and businessman known as Perez Hilton after a broadcast on TikTok. In addition to concern about the health status of the content creator, netizens also criticized the social network.
It turns out that Hilton's transmission lasted about 30 minutes and, although the transmission was cut and the account suspended a few minutes later, many consider that the platform acted too late.
How does the Mirror, it is not known for sure how many people saw Hilton's broadcast, but the publication notes that at some point there were 4,000 people watching live what the content creator seemed to self-mutilate.
“ Honestly, I think TikTok should be held responsible in some way.”, noticed one of the users. “ I think we need a collective action by TikTok to allow Perez Hilton's video for over 30 minutes. The video was seen by children”, commented another netizen according to the publication.
TikTok has not yet spoken about the case, but in the guidelines on mental and behavioral health the company states that “does not allow display, promotion or sharing of suicide and self-mutilation plans”.
“ We want TikTok to be a platform where you can discuss emotionally complex topics in a welcoming way, without the risk of damage”you can read it on this page from the platform.
Once the video was broadcast, very strong images began to circulate through social networks that show it covered in blood.
The agents were sent to the scene after receiving several calls from viewers concerned about what they had just seen live, a police spokesman referred to People magazine. When they got to the scene, they realized Perez Hilton was alone.
“ In many occurrences involving a person who goes through a mental health crisis or who is actively self-mutilating, agents prioritize the progressive reduction of the moment of tension, creating time, distance and opportunities for communication”, said the authorities.
“ Unless there is an immediate threat to third parties, slowing the situation down and using crisis intervention techniques may reduce the likelihood of a ‘police suicide’ confrontation and minimise the risk of injury to the individual, the police and the public”, explains the statement.
