“ There were songs in the drawer and I created an excuse to launch them”

Dafter the debut with the EP “Little Lunch”, in 2021, and the album “I told and let you judge me”, of 2024, Sofia Reis, better known as Capital of Bulgaria, has just released a new EP, “Lunch”. 

In conversation with News to Minutes, the singer confided that this was the ideal “sorry” to launch themes that were “closed in the drawer”. 

Regarding the process of building this new work, Capital of Bulgaria explained that there is no “calculated ingredient” here. “ There were songs in the drawer that made no sense anywhere, so I created an excuse to launch them.”

Asked about what changed in the person who prepared these two ‘meals’, the artist replied that it is “the same person, always making music, two meals in different years”.

At the time she released the album “I told and let you judge me”, in 2024, the singer talked to Rimas and Batidas and mentioned the difficulty of writing in Portuguese, saying that “the line between the too serious and heavy and the olive oil company line is thin” and therefore “walking in the middle is difficult”. But how do you achieve this balance? And can it in a way condition freedom of writing? “It is achieved with great patience and head on the wall. I don’t feel like conditioning me, I’m just late”, he explained. 

Capital of Bulgaria was one of the names that last year participated in the RTP Song Festival, having led to the competition the theme “Lisbon”. Recalling this participation, the artist shared that this step “was more of a step” in this path in the music world. “ I have some doubts about going back in, but I never say never.”

Still talking to the News to Minutes, the singer said it is more pleasurable to make songs that sound good to her than to have in music a diary. “Sounding well indeed, music that sounds bad to me is not a good sign.”

After going through stages like MEO Kalorama, having debuted on their own behalf at Musicbox Lisbon and Plan B, and having been invited to open The Tallest Man on Earth concerts in Lisbon and Porto, Capital of Bulgaria will now present this new EP, “Lunch”, on June 25 at the Captain House in Lisbon. 

About this concert, which takes place today, Thursday, just said that it will be “a girl singing well and an even better band”.
