O president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, today confirmed the appointment for November of a US-mediated meeting with Russia to relaunch the peace negotiations.
In an interview with Ukrainian national television, Zelensky said the country is ready to discuss: “If it is a territorial issue, it should be addressed by the leaders. The other matters fall within the competence of the technical groups”.
The Ukrainian President also recalled that the security guarantees Ukraine requires from Western allies, the size of the army or the choice of other alliances “are not negotiable”.
Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov today proposed to resume negotiations with Ukraine and the United States after November 4, National Unity Day, indicating Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to be the headquarters of contacts.
Ushakov, in statements to Russian public television RTR, admitted that these trilateral talks could be a “test” because “one cannot decide much at the first meeting”.
Russia, Ukraine and the United States already met in trilateral format on 23 and 24 January, 4 and 5 February and 17 and 18 February. A new meeting was scheduled on 5 and 8 March in the Emirates, but it was postponed following the United States attack on Iran.
