O President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Kassio Nunes Marques, said today that the difficulty of public transport by bus registered in some Brazilian cities “is being corrected”, like Salvador and São Paulo.
“In fact, in some places there is still difficulty in transport, which is being corrected,” he said during the press conference in Brasilia, when presenting the first review of the first voting hours of the second round.
However, they did not answer when asked if the TSE evaluates extending the voting time, which ends at 5:00 p.m., in Brasilia time, to contemplate the voters injured by the lack of public transportation.
In the city of São Paulo, whose mayor, Ricardo Nunes, is from an opposition party to Lula da Silva (PT), the Electoral Justice determined that the local government offers 100% of the fleet of buses in operation.
Lula da Silva's Workers' Party (PT), called for justice and requested arrest of the Secretary of Urban Mobility and Transport of São Paulo, Celso Jorge Caldeira, for the lack of buses.
In Salvador, the Electoral Justice of the State of Bahia determined the arrest of the city's mobility secretary, Paulo Souza, after 75 public transport buses were prevented from leaving because they had stickers with reference to Lula da Silva's candidacy.
The Brazilian press has also reported that residents of several other cities in the country have complained about the low supply of buses and long waiting lines for public transportation.
Still at the press conference, the president of the TSE avoided talking about the possibility of a third round in the elections, and said they will respond to the actions of Lula and Flavio campaigns, in which both ask to cancel each other's candidacy for alleged electoral abuses.
“It is a tradition of Brazilian electoral justice judicialization. Judicialization is part of the legal culture. And the demands that came to the court, all will get their answers ", declared.
“Electoral Justice should address these demands. As to what this may cause, I like to say that every agony in its time. Today’s agony is to deliver a safe, peaceful and transparent election.”.
