O president of the House of Lisbon today revealed that 1,243 municipal dwellings have been built from the beginning of their governance in 2021, corresponding to 36% of the 3.444 keys delivered in the last five years.

Carlos Coins (PSD) answered a question by the municipal deputy of the PS Carla Rothes, at the end of the debate on the state of the city, which took place today at the Lisbon Municipal Assembly (AML).

The mayor pointed out that, according to the Municipal Charter of Housing, between 2011 and 2021 (PS governors), 155 houses were built from root, which, dividing for 10 years, does not reach 17 new constructions per year, number that has been mentioned by the leadership of Coins to criticize the alleged little work of the PS in Lisbon.

In her speech, the Socialist Member had said that, contrary to what the right has said about the alleged few houses delivered in the PS administrations, the difference is, in fact, only 60 fewer houses than since 2021, and the PS has not enjoyed EUR 500 million of Community funds.

Carlos Coins replied that between 2008 and 2021, the Lisbon City Council “sold 599 million in real estate and 286 million more that it received from the airport’s land, i.e. it had 885 million euros” available.

“My question is, what did [the PS] do with this money? Because it was not in construction of houses ", it shot the mayor.

Coins also recalled the commitment to unlock more than 250 hectares of land in Lisbon, listing the project for the Valley of Santo António, with 48 hectares for more than 2,400 fires, the Valley of Chelas, with 190 hectares for more than 2,000 fires, and 27 hectares in Marvila for 1,300 fires.

These projects were part of the electoral commitments of the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition campaign, but so far without execution.

Over the past five years, Carlos Coins has emphasized the evolution of the number of keys of municipal houses delivered, without detailing how many are new construction, rehabilitation or simply changing tenants in pre-existing homes.
