A casa para Viver platform is promoting a demonstration on Tuesday, next to the Trinidad metro station in Porto, to demand a State Budget favorable to housing and protest against police violence.

According to a publication published today on social networks, the platform states that “while thousands of families are pushed out of their homes for incomportable income and benefits, the government proposes cutting money in the housing sector in the State Budget and represses demonstrations.”.

Thus, it is promoting the demonstration, starting at 6:30 p.m., to demand the “immediate end of repression on those who fight for the right to housing”.

The general debate on the proposal for a State Budget for 2027 at the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The overall final vote of the document, which the government delivered at the beginning of the month in parliament, is scheduled for November 24.

The Casa para Viver also wants the “clearance of responsibilities for the police load” that occurred in the campsites of Lisbon and Porto, which caused dozens of wounded.

The platform also requires a “democratic budget” that gives the “fair money to solve the housing problem instead of cutting the sector’s money”.

The PSP dispersed today at dawn, batonada and with the use of dogs, demonstrations for the right to housing in Lisbon and Porto, after more than two hours of tension and orders for people to leave and tents to be removed.

The demonstrators did not follow orders, invoking the constitutional right to the demonstration.

According to the PSP, there were 33 injured and 33 detained for disobedience. In a statement, camp organizations reported dozens of wounded.

The protesters demand the reversal of the new rental law, the end of demolitions and evictions without an alternative housing, a stop to the purchase of housing by real estate funds, the increase in public housing, the recovery of vacant buildings for housing purposes and ceilings “truely accessible” to income.

The leftist parties criticized the police intervention, asking for clarification from the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and the intervention of the President of the Republic, António José Seguro. Only the PSD, the government party, defended the police's actions.
