Cdid you stop watermelon? Perfect. It's one of the fruits of the season and there's no better time to consume it than this. We've already shown you how to choose and what to do with seeds. Now is the time to know how to keep the watermelon in the best way to keep it from getting ruined.
The Homes&Gardens website provided some tips on how to save watermelon in the best way. The way you store it can make it soft, sweet and tasteless.
How to store watermelon
First of all, it should be noted whether the watermelon came chilled. If so, the best thing is not to interrupt the cold chain. “ If you buy refrigerated watermelons, do not interrupt the cold chain, otherwise you can get lumps, lose color and taste. This is especially important if you live in a hot climate, because the deterioration will occur more quickly,” the National Watermelon Promotion Board revealed.

On the other hand, the indication may be a little different if you buy them in markets or fruit shops without the fruit having gone cold before. In this case, the ideal is that they be stored at room temperature.
If after seven to 10 does not consume it, the ideal is to put it in the refrigerator. “Studies show that watermelon at room temperature has higher levels of nutrients, but for this it cannot have been refrigerated before,” they continue.
Once cut, it is in the refrigerator that needs to be stored. Otherwise, it will lose moisture and bacteria may develop. Tammy Sons, founder of TN Nursery, also suggests using adhesive film after being cut.
“ After slicing, I press firmly on the exposed pulp or place the cubes in an airtight glass container. This shape prevents odors from entering the refrigerator and retains moisture, so that the pieces remain crispy and vibrant for three to four days.”
Freeze the watermelon? Yes or no?
Might be a good idea to freeze the watermelon. Many foods are impeccable, but watermelon is not one of them. “Freeze slices of watermelon causes the shell to crumble, which results in a farinthous and pasty texture when thawed“, continues the National Watermelon Promotion Board.
In this way, if you have excess watermelon, the solution will be used in smoothies and juices in a blender.
Keep the watermelon away from apples and bananas
The gas these fruits produce can be harmful and speed up the ripening of other foods around, such as watermelon. “Apples and bananas naturally release ethylene gas as they ripen, and this gas causes watermelon to accelerate its ripening process.” In this way, it should place the watermelon isolated and away from other fruits.
