O Ecological Party The Greens (ENP) today criticized the “deaf silence” of the President of the Republic on the police charge on “peaceful protesters” for the right to housing, which he considers “unacceptable”, occurred during the early hours in Lisbon and Porto.

“The police charge to which this morning was once again seen is unacceptable”, one can read in one of the ENP’s executive committee, stressing that the right to demonstration “is a constitutionally consecrated right”.

In addition, the Greens criticize the fact that “before the police violence that has limited the right to demonstration, it is not understandable that the President of the Republic, who swore to comply and enforce the Constitution, should remain silent!”.

“ This silence, faced with such serious events, becomes deafening ", accuse.

In the note, the ENP recalls that it was seen, both in Lisbon and in Porto, “the peaceful demonstrations in defense of the right to housing, also included in the Constitution”, considering that “the police charge, in the form of the batonada, made, once again, several wounded and led to the arrest of several of the participants”.

“ The way the government sends the police forward against people who demonstrate peacefully, is not at all a scenario worthy of a democracy”, laments the party.

Stop The Greens, the statements of the Prime Minister, Luis Montenegro, and the Minister of the Interior, Luis Neves, have revealed “the extreme arrogance of those who are part of a government that has aggravated the problems of access to housing and that is preparing to worsen even further, as a new law of cooked rents between PSD/CDS and Enough”.

“The response of the government is that of those who are undeniably divorced from the population!”, concluded the ENP note.

The police today dispersed, at batonada, the demonstrations for the right to housing, in two actions simultaneously in Lisbon and Porto, after more than two hours of tension and unaccepted dispersion orders, to remove the tents mounted by protesters by the right to housing

According to the PSP, there are 11 wounded and 31 detained for disobedience, however, in a statement published on social networks, the Lisbon Camp, states that the assistance of dozens of wounded.
