A Praça D. João I, in Porto, already has 15 tents mounted in the protest for the dwelling that takes place there since October 10, two hours after the decision to return to camp on site.

At 11:30 p.m., Lusa counted a dozen and a half tents already set up, while a private meeting was held for those who voted to stay overnight in the popular assembly, to decide what to do in the various scenarios, including the arrival of the police, after having already been targeted by two police loads.

Hours earlier, it was decided to recamp in the square, but only a tent was set up at 10:30, beginning to massify shortly after.

The PSP has insisted at 00:30 as the closing time of the demonstration, reiterating the warnings for the dismantling of tents on site, but, for now, in addition to some cars in the vicinity, it was not visible police force.

During the morning of Sunday, PSP dispersed, with batonada and using dogs, the demonstrations for the right to housing in Lisbon and Porto, after more than two hours of tension and orders for people to leave and tents to be removed.

The demonstrators did not follow orders, invoking the constitutional right to the demonstration.

According to the PSP, there were 33 injured and 33 detained for disobedience. In a statement, camp organizations reported dozens of wounded.

The Internal Administration Inspectorate (IGAI) opened a process following police interventions that took place on Sunday morning in Lisbon and Porto. Also the ombudsman asked the PSP, urgently, information about the police load on Sunday morning about the protesters.

The protesters demand the reversal of the new rental law, the end of demolitions and evictions without an alternative housing, a stop to the purchase of housing by real estate funds, the increase in public housing, the recovery of vacant buildings for housing purposes and ceilings “truely accessible” to income.
