O Argentine President, Javier Milei, and Sister Karina were acquitted in the $LIBRA case of accusations of fraud and other crimes at the launch of this cryptocurrency, whose value went off and then dropped to the ground, causing losses to thousands of investors.
The decision of Judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi met the request of prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, who concluded that the necessary elements were not proven to configure the investigated crimes, including fraud, trafficking of influence, abuse of power and negotiations incompatible with the exercise of public functions.
In relation to the alleged scam, the decision maintains that no deceptive criminally relevant deception has been identified which has led buyers to acquire the cryptotive, nor has a causal link been established between a possible misleading maneuver and the economic losses suffered after the fall of its quotation.
The decision considers that the abrupt fall in the price of the token alone is not sufficient to characterise a scam if it is not shown that false information would have led investors to carry out the transactions.
As for Javier Milei, the decision states that no functional acts or decisions contrary to the law related to disclosure on the social networks of the crypto.
In the case of Karina Milei, it is noted that it has not been proven that he has requested or received money to facilitate meetings between the President and entrepreneurs linked to the initiative.
The decision also covers entrepreneurs Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy, Sergio Morales, Hayden Mark Davis and Julian Peh, as well as María Alicia Rafaele, María Pía Novelli, Camilo Rodríguez Blanco and Orlando Mellino.
The process began after a publication by Milei, on February 14, 2025, in his account on social network X, in which he released the project “Viva la Libertad Project” and a cryptoactive address to finance Argentine private enterprises.
The value of $LIBRA rose rapidly after the presidential publication and fell short hours later, causing financial losses to investors and giving rise to legal complaints in Argentina and abroad.
Computer skills, carried out by the court in November 2025 and revealed by the local press in March, recovered, on the mobile phone of one of those involved, the minute of a contract between Millei and American businessman Hayden Mark Davis — coin maker — worth about five million dollars.
In addition, the expertise released in recent days revealed that, in parallel with the launch of $LIBRA, Milei held frequent conversations with Mauricio Novelli, an Argentine businessman who put the person responsible in contact with Davis and who is one of the main involved in the case.
In March, the Argentine Congressional Committee that investigated the case of cryptocurrency $LIBRA until November 2025 publicly denounced the prosecutor Taiano for “obstruction of the investigation” and “possible cover-up”.
