A Liga Portuguesa de Ambulâncias (LPA) suspended today the slow march scheduled for Monday in the Lisbon area after the government included the sector in fuel support and open negotiations.

The decision comes after the Government announced today that it will come to include non-urgent private patient transport companies in the framework of extraordinary and temporary financial support to mitigate fuel increases.

In a statement, the LPA “health and values this decision of the Government”, considering that it represents “an important recognition of the relevance of private transport companies for the operation of the National Health Service”.

For LPA, this measure is “a positive response to one of the main demands that the League has been presenting with” the government and corrects “a situation of inequality that had been unfairly penalizing companies in the sector.”.

LPA had scheduled a slow march, crossing the 25th of April Bridge and several streets of Lisbon, with about 100 ambulances and vehicles involved in the transport of patients, in protest against the exclusion of fuel support, prices imposed by the State and delays in payments of the National Health Service.

The Portuguese Ambulance League also highlights the first meeting with the Government on Monday to initiate a negotiating process.

Government announces support for private patient transport companies

The Government included non-urgent patient transport companies under Decree-Law 199/2026, which establishes an extraordinary and temporary package of financial support to mitigate increased fuel costs and AdBlue.
