O mozambican politician Venâncio Mondlane said today that his party is in “almost declared war” with the province of Inhambane, after a local administrator rejects that the formation gathers its provincial cadres to participate in the convention.
“Inhambane province and we are almost in a declared war situation. On September 10, Daniel Chapo paid a visit to Zavala and on the 11th Elídio Fassitela was murdered. Two days ago, our Zavala coordinator was tortured almost to death. Today we are receiving this communication,” Mondlane said, during the opening of the extraordinary party convention, referring to the dispatch of the administrator of Inhassoro, who rejected the request for police protection of party members who are in the province to follow the convention live.
This is a communication from the National Alliance Party for Free and Autonomous Mozambique (Anamola), which asked the Government of the district of Inhassoro, in Inhambane province for police protection to the site that will welcome its members to accompany the party's extraordinary convention on digital platforms.
According to Mondlane, the local executive, in addition to rejecting the request, also said that he did not authorize the meeting of party members in that province.
“ We are almost in a situation of almost declared war in Inhambane, and today it is an incredible thing [...] we communicate that we have a meeting in our premises, in the private space and the administrator says it does not authorize ", said Mondlane, indicating that the government sent the police force to prevent the meeting and accusing government agencies of promoting a return to monopartyism.
“What the administrator is doing today is 1975’s, and still using special police forces to prevent a statutory meeting in his private space,” he added, accusing the government of violating party political rights.
Anamola today holds its first extraordinary National Convention in Maputo, with the participation of more than 400 delegates to discuss three agenda points, namely the presentation and discussion of proposals for revision of the party's statutes, party ideology and the verification of how to adapt the statutes to the composition of the party's executive committee.
Mondlane said today that his party holds the convention with a mission to “make history” in the country.
“ We are in a sensitive and good period, because we are subject to political persecution, the level of persecution that is found has never been the same in the political history of this country [...] in a year we have a balance of 55 murders” in addition to “arbitrary” arrests, as it was.
The politician stressed that Anamola was created to bring the true and genuine independence of Mozambique, stating that it fights against injustices and for the improvement of the justice system, a party state with impartial and cross-cutting rules.
Venâncio Mondlane was elected president of Anamola in August this year, in the province of Nampula, for a five-year term, party that he himself, presidential candidate in 2024, founded in 2025.
The Supreme Court scheduled for November 17 the beginning of the trial of Venâncio Mondlane, in the context of the protests following the general elections of October 9, 2024, in which the politician was candidate for the Presidency of the Republic and did not recognize the official results.
The process was moved by the prosecutor, who accuses the politician of crimes of public apology to crime, incitement to collective disobedience, public instigation to the practice of crime, instigation to terrorism and incitement to terrorism.
