Qtwo hundred Palestinians have been forced to leave Hebron in the south of the West Bank since Friday because of a military operation by Israel in the territory.
According to the Spanish news agency EFE, which cites data from the local authorities in Hebron, 2,193 people were registered as expelled and displaced by order of the Israeli army and access to the city remains blocked.
The displaced represent 344 families, of which 140 say they have no alternative place to stay.
According to the Palestinian press, Israeli troops are marking the buildings from which the residents were expelled, suspecting that they are part of the demolition plan for housing in two parts of the city.
On Friday, two Israeli soldiers were killed in an attack on the occupied West Bank, in which two Palestinians who were suspected of shooting the military also died.
The attack took place near the city of Hebron and the Israeli army claimed to have avoided a “terrorist attack against Israeli civilians.”.
Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the “total blockade” of the West Bank and the start of a military operation, including the forced withdrawal of Palestinian residents.
The operation was announced a few days after the legislative elections of Tuesday, October 27, in Israel.
