Insurance will speak “soon” about housing (after hearing the parties)

O President of the Republic said today that he will shortly talk about the outcome of the hearings with the parties on the issue of housing.

“ We will talk about this briefly”, said António José Seguro at the end of the reception ceremony of the frigate NRP D. Francisco de Almeida at the Naval Base of Alfeite, who returned to Portugal after participating in NATO Operation Brilliant Shield.

António José Seguro replied telegraphically to the journalists' question as to whether the political parties had given him the assurances he expected.

The President of the Republic heard today the ten parliamentary parties on social cohesion, which included housing, and on which he also called a meeting of the Council of State.

These hearings were convened on Wednesday last week, two days after the head of state called for an understanding between the PSD/CDS-PP Government and opposition parties to take urgent and other lasting measures in the area of housing.

Following the police intervention on protesters for the right to housing on Sunday morning, António José Seguro spoke to journalists on Tuesday, stating that he did not like what he saw and reiterated the call for urgent solutions to housing, through dialogue, without resorting to violence.

In this statement, the President of the Republic stated that he has been active and vigilant and stressed the invitation to parties for hearings on social cohesion and the convening of a meeting of the Council of State for 2 November on the same subject, in which he included housing.
