iberian general strike
Um spokesperson of the Union of Inquilinas and Inquilinos of Madrid, in Spain, today called for the collaboration of the Portuguese trade unions, CGTP and UGT, in the Iberian general strike scheduled for November 11.
“ The serious Iberian general will happen because the resonance of grassroots movements and popular action that now hold power in this country is in this idea, but we need the help of the majority unions in Portugal. I am also here to ask very clearly for the useful collaboration of CGTP and UGT in Portugal”, said Pablo García Bachiller.
Speaking at the close of the Common Future Summit, promoted by the European Left Alliance in Lisbon, the Spanish trade union leader argued that the struggle for the right to housing “is international” and that there should be unity of action.
“ These unions have a capacity to mobilize many people. If someone disconnects the labor claims from the demands of housing rights, I think it is politically wrong”, he said.
Pablo García Bachiller said he had “a lot of respect for political and trade union traditions” and asked the trade unions to “feel with the basic movements”.
