Serra Union believes that motivation can overcome Sporting in the Cup

O president of the Union of Serra today considered that the motivation can overcome the talent and the best training of Sporting, at the meeting of the Cup of Portugal football, expressing the desire that the 'lions' play in the maximum force.

“ It will be a moment when motivation can really win the talent and the best training Sporting will have ", said, Amândio Santos, in declarations to Canal 11, after the draw that dictated the reception of the 'lions', in the Stadium José Alvalade, to the Union of Serra, the Championship of Portugal, fourth echelon of Portuguese football, in the fourth round of the Cup of Portugal.

Underlining that the qualifier will be special for the club of the district of Leiria, the leader said he would like Sporting to present with the best, despite recognizing the differences between the two emblems, and highlighted the motivation of the players to face one of the biggest clubs in Portuguese football.

The Serra Sports Union, a club in the parish of Santa Catarina da Serra, in the municipality of Leiria, occupies the fifth place of the Portuguese Championship Series 3.

The trip to the José Alvalade Stadium coincides with the 50th anniversary of the club, which is marked on Tuesday, and appears at a time when the team reached this stage of the Portuguese Cup for the first time in its history.

“ It's really a happy coincidence. We are extremely motivated and happy to be able to compete this qualifier with Sporting ", said the president.

The leader also recalled that the Union of Serra took about 300 supporters to the stronghold of Vitória de Setúbal, that the Leirians won in the Penaltis (4-2, after 1-1 in 120 minutes), and hopes to have more supporters in Alvalade, depending on the day and time of the game.

“In Setúbal, we took an associative mass that, for us, already has an impact, with about 300 people in the stadium,” he said, hoping that the trip to Alvalade would allow even more supporters to gather.

The leader also highlighted the recent course of the team, which has not lost at home for about three years, and stated that the club will prepare the elimination to give a good answer, despite the differences between the two emblems.

“ We really have some quality, or a lot of quality for our level, and the results of recent years have even reflected that”, he said.

The presence in the Cup of Portugal is already generating commercial opportunities for the club. “A sponsor has already called me to put the brand in our socks,” said Amândio Santos.

The games of the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup are scheduled for 21 and 22 November.
