News to Minutes
Habout two weeks ago, the new car was presented at the Paris Motor Show Fiat Multiplay – a concept car that refers to the old Multiple and joins SUV, single-volume and pick-up features. And could be the starting point of a production model.
People's reaction will be decisive to trace plans, design director François Leboine told the publication "Autocar". It glimpses a post-SUV future, admitting that “the difficulty is that, when it comes with innovation and novelty, the market may not be prepared yet“.
If it goes to production, when can that happen? Arnaud Belloni points to a period of two to three years, “if we are fast”. The director of the Italian brand believes that the range needs a family model and is convinced about the potential of the monovolumes and the coexistence of these and SUVs. “That’s why, on my list of priorities, I put the work into the invention of the next generation monovolume. It will have as base ideas of SUV [...]: large wheels, the same platforms, but all reinterpreted”.
The “secret” is in pillar C
Described by Belloni as “fantasically important” and “absolutely significant”, fiat Multiplay is 4,45 meters long. Align the space of a single volume with SUV characteristics and the typical versatility of pick-up.
Pillar C is the radical trait and the great secret to versatility: is a mobile module that allows switching between the pick-up settings (open box and four seats) and six seats. Multiplay was announced “as a laboratory of solutions for mobility of the future”, without anticipating “a specific production model”.
