A Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, today accused opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner 2025, María Corina Machado, of turning her return to the country into a “show” on Sunday.

“It could save us the spectacle, there are airports here,” said Delcy Rodríguez, in statements released by state television.

After ten months of exile, María Corina Machado appeared by surprise on Sunday in Barquisimeto, in western Venezuela, and then to Caracas, a journey of almost 400 kilometers by road, made under the acclaim of thousands of its supporters, who concentrated along the route.

María Corina Machado “showed the intention of sitting at the negotiating table, not only with Delcy Rodríguez, but also with anyone else with whom she needs to dialogue, in a public, transparent way and with a clear agenda for things to take place,” said her spokesman, Claudia Macero, in statements to local broadcaster Unión Radio.

In power since the capture, on January 3, this year, of the then Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, by the US Army, the interim President, Delcy Rodríguez, conducts, with an opposition wing, negotiations supported by Washington for a democratic transition, a process from which Nobel was excluded.

Machado’s return is his response to “a transition process that requires” the participation of “all parties” and “can’t leave María Corina out,” Macero added.

“ There is no credible transition or election process without the strength and legitimacy of the people it represents,” the spokesman said.
