O Internal Security System (SSI) is “following closely” the Spanish authorities’ warning of a jihadist call for attacks on police and protesters during protests in various European countries, including Portugal.

“The Secretary-General of the Internal Security System is closely monitoring the situation referred to [jihadist appeals to attacks against police and demonstrators] within the framework of her competences and in permanent liaison with the competent authorities”, refers the SSI, in a reply sent to Lusa.

The Spanish newspaper El Pais states that the Ministry of the Interior has detected messages on a ‘site’ near the Islamic State that call for attacks on police and protesters during the protests that have been taking place these days in several European countries, including Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.

According to the Spanish newspaper, which claims to have had access to an internal document of the Spanish Cybersecurity Coordination Office, the messages encourage the use of demonstrations with great popular participation and confrontations in the streets to commit attacks.

Lusa also contacted the Ministry of Internal Administration, which referred a response to the SSI, which has an Anti-Terrorist Coordination Unit which coordinates and shares information among all security forces and services in the field of preventing and combating terrorism.
